Traditional weddings tend to involve a big white dress, some type of religious ceremony, and a large and very expensive party for family and friends. Of course, if this is your dream wedding then great, you are sure to have a fabulous day, but if you would prefer tying the knot in a different way, here are a few weird and wacky wedding ideas for couples that like to step outside of their comfort zone.
1. The ‘Finding Nemo’ Wedding
Water themed weddings are popular. A lot of couples choose to get married on a beach somewhere hot and tropical, the sun setting over the ocean and the waves lapping gently on the powdery white sand. Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it, but if you want to take this one step further, arrange a scuba diving wedding and say your vows under the water with a few tropical fishes as your special guests.
2. The Adrenaline Junkies’ Wedding
For those who find the notion of a traditional wedding a bit too boring, how about saying your vows whilst skydiving or bungee jumping? This type of high-octane activity is well suited to couples that spend their spare time enjoying dangerous activities and extreme sports. The only problem you may have if you decide to book an adrenaline junkie wedding is finding an ordained minister willing to join you ten thousand feet up in the air.
3. The Shotgun Wedding
Do you fancy starting married life on the run? If so, why not run away and have a romantic shotgun wedding with only a couple of strangers pulled off the street as witnesses. It can be very romantic to get married in secret. You could head down to Mexico or Las Vegas and book a quickie wedding without telling a soul. Your friends and family might be a little bit peeved to have missed out on the ceremony, but hold a belated wedding party and everyone will soon be on your side.

The great thing about climbing to the top of a mountain is that you get to enjoy a fabulous view once you finally make it (assuming the summit isn’t buried in cloud). Planning a mountain top wedding is a lot more fun than heading down to the local church to say your vows. Instead, you can enjoy a strenuous hike with your fiancée and then saunter back down as man and wife. Just be aware that the wedding pictures may feature you looking hot and sweaty as a result of your exertions.
5. Nautical Weddings
If you are enjoying a cruise and the urge to get hitched suddenly strikes, pay a visit to the captain and ask him or her to marry you both. You can say your vows as the ship sails into a romantic sunset and then toast life as a married couple while seated at the captain’s table. Weddings at sea are a fantastic idea and can be super romantic—unless you are stuck on the cruise ship from Hell and the other 900 passengers have been struck down with a gastrointestinal virus.
Whatever type of wedding you have in mind, just make sure you plan the details very carefully to avoid any last minute problems.
