Thai weddings are steeped in rich tradition. Before there is a ceremony, the groom has to complete a few steps. He must visit the bride’s family and arrange a dowry for the bride and her family. Depending upon the bride’s social standing and education, the dowry can be differing amounts of money. The groom must also present his bride with a 24 karat gold gift.
Even though this kind of tradition may seem a bit strange to westerners, it is the groom’s way of letting the bride’s family know that he appreciates and is thankful for his bride to be. The traditional Thai wedding always gets started very early in the day with the Hae Khun Mag. This is the part of the celebration in which the groom leads the guests to the bride’s house where gifts are given.
The groom must pass through two gates before getting to the bride. One is the silver gate and the other is called the gold gate. The bride’s sisters hold these two doors and use obstructions like chains to keep the groom from entering until he presents them with envelopes containing (usually) money. After this is when the Buddhist ceremony begins and nine monks are invited to the bride’s home. A feast is prepared to make merit with the nine monks by the family and friends.
In the afternoon then the Rod Nam Sang takes place. This is a traditional ceremony and the most important event that brings the whole family together. The bride’s parents pour holy water on the bride and groom’s hands and bless them. After all of these things are completed, the wedding ceremony is performed in the evening. It is ornately decorated with some of Thailand’s most beautiful blooming flowers, and it is definitely a dazzling display of love and tradition. Thailand is home to many of the best flower shops in the world. They are experts in raising different flower species and are also good artists when it comes to arranging exquisite floral centerpieces. You can go online or call up one of these flower shops and order the flowers for your special event. These friendly florists will be more than happy to serve you.
The final part of the ceremony is the Song Tua and it is about seeing the newlywed off to their bedroom. They are accompanied by a couple that has been married for a while that “pave” the way to their marriage bed for them. It is a long time Thai tradition that is an integral part of every wedding.
Thai people are steeped in family and tradition and these lovely customs are best displayed during a marriage ceremony. They consider marriage something of great value and worth, and the celebration that takes place is truly an extravaganza like no other.
Weddings in Thailand are an extraordinary cultural event unlike any wedding in the western hemisphere. Family values are of great importance, and the bride’s family plays an integral role in her marriage. Flowers Thailand provide flowers and gifts for weddings throughout Thailand.
