Our wedding day was the most magical day of my entire life. We were surrounded by our families and friends and we were thrilled that everyone got along and seemed to enjoy themselves. After the big day we headed straight off to our honeymoon and my mum and dad took care of clearing everything up and taking our wedding presents home. We had so many they had to do a couple of trips!
Arriving Home to a Room Full of Gifts was Incredible
Our honeymoon was spectacular but it was lovely to come home as man and wife. When we walked through the door, my husband picked me up and carried me over the threshold, old fashioned yes, but it was such a lovely touch. When we walked into the living room we were faced with all our wedding gifts still wrapped and placed beautifully on the floor and table. We had forgotten all about the presents so it was so wonderful to realize that we were in for a huge treat from all of our guests. We ditched our bags, opened a bottle of champagne my mum had put next to the presents and sat down with huge smiles on our faces to open the gifts.
I am not ashamed to say I actually shed a few tears that afternoon. We were so spoilt and we loved everything. Many people had stuck to our list and brought us things we needed, including the typical toaster which we both loved and laughed over. However, some of our friends seemed to have gone an extra mile. We received some beautiful items that were personalized just to us, making them unique and extra special. I will never forget the wedding or honeymoon but the day we sat sipping bubbly and opening those gifts will always stay with me forever too.
My Own Wedding Inspired Me to Shop Carefully for Wedding Presents
From that day on, I have always made sure to spend some time thinking and finding the perfect wedding presents. In the past, I have never put much thought into what to buy. I would simply choose something off the list that was within budget and leave it there. Now that I have experienced the whole ‘opening of wedding gifts’ thing, I know how special those presents really are. When buying for my friends and family, I now remember the following points:
- Think how I can make the present stand out and more memorable. One way I do this is by personalizing the gifts to make them unique to the couple. I like to do this by adding their names to the item, such as engraving glasses or silver, or even by adding the date of their special day.
- Find something which isn’t on the list. Wedding lists are often full of practical items and many of the gifts can be a little bit boring. Take time to see what their tastes are like and buy something which would complement the other gifts perfectly. We were treated to some brilliant items, such as Mr and Mrs pillow cases, and these certainly made us smile. It was lovely to see what our guests came up with.
- I tend to shop online as it is easier to find items which aren’t commonly bought by guests. By shopping on the Internet, I am able to find the perfect things and usually find the process to be incredibly good value for money. Online shopping is also a good idea if you want to have things personalized as you can order them to arrive exactly as you want them to.
Have fun choosing the gift, make it from you and ideally suited to the couple. If you are able to do that, your gift will become a treasured item for the happy couple to keep for the rest of their lives.
If you need some help and inspiration, I find the best place to find unique wedding gifts is online. Add a special touch and help prolong the magic of the wedding day.
