How to Become a Wedding Planner 1

How to become a wedding planner is becoming a very popular question. Studies have shown that in the past few years, more than 20% of all the couples in the nation chose to hire a wedding planner to help them create their perfect day.

In an industry that is worth billions, this is a huge number of people being hired and a lot of money changing hands.

If you want to become a professional wedding coordinator, there are a number of different approaches you can take. The first is to go to the local college and enroll as a student.

You should know that most institutions do not have degrees that are specific to that of a wedding planner. (See also wedding planner course)

The closest you may be able to find are programs that are designed for the event planner. This may or may not be exactly what you had in mind when you went to sign up. Many of the classes in this field will be geared towards preparing people to be cruise directors or to work in large hotels organizing conventions.

However, you will learn a lot about the business side of the job. The training may extend to include taxes and the liabilities involved in owning and operating your own business.

Wedding planner certification

Certification is another option available to you. There are various people and places that will train you to become a wedding consultant.

However, it is important to know that there are no laws regarding these programs and therefore, each course is designed by the institution. The industry does not have any set standards and the programs from one place to another may vary greatly, as will the cost and the length of time required to finish the course.

You should also be aware that since there are no industry laws, experience is often the best teacher. You could think about working for an established firm for a few years prior to venturing out on your own.

There is no substitute for on the job training, and you will learn many tricks of the trade that would never enter into a classroom. Additionally, you will be able to form contacts and meet people who may become customers in the future. An experienced guide can show you the ropes.

If you do plan to make being a wedding coordinator your career, you should pick the option that suits you the best. If possible, you may want to do more than one of these options. You may be able to work during the day with a Wedding planner and go to school online in the evenings.

How to become a wedding planner is a question that is being voiced by more and more individuals as they realize the need for people in the industry. If you feel that this is the field for you, take the time to examine all the options carefully.
